Arches Nationalpark
Of the canyons tour the day in Arches NP was the most ingenious of all. For me it began at 4.30 a.m., when I drove from Moab to the park entrance, in order not to miss the sunrise. Michael kept snoring quietly in his bed, while I did the few miles in total darkness. I waited for the sun at the Balanced Rock, the temperature in the lower 40s. Man, I froze. But the tender orange, which wrapped the Balanced Rock after a half hour of freezing, compensated me for everything.
I was back in bed around 6.30 a.m. before we took of together at 9 a.m. We didn't know it would be the most strenuous day of the vacation. We did about 20 kilometers on the trails that day, we ran into the lower 90s in the afternoon (in the shade - what shade?)
The conclusion of that brilliant, brilliant day was the walk to the Delicate Arch in the late afternoon, where we celebrated the sunset together with some hundred tourists from all different countries - just as overwhelming as the sunrise 12 hours before.

the arch is nearly 80 meters wide
