Nature

These pictures can show the beauty of South Africa only insufficiently. As in most countries it is more the feeling that you have while watching nature than the result of the photography. But I hope to be able to give at least an impression why a journey to South Africa is more then worthwhile. I can recall only Australia when I try to think of a landscape that can keep up with South Africa. Even the US of A have trouble following.

The most impressive thing is the speed with which the scenery can change. Sometimes you just have to cross a little mountain, in order to come (for example) from the Little Karoo (half desert) into the green wine area around Stellenbosch.

I can't name a favorite. Each area for itself was beautiful - whereas photographically the coastal regions (i.e. Garden Route) are not to be missed.

1. Drake Mountains
A view of the mountains shortly after Petrus stopped the rainmill :-)

2. Blyde River
Impression of Blyde River Canyon

3. Force of Nature
Snapshot from Tsitsikamma (Garden Route). In the background the next rain cloud can already be seen. The funny thing: it isn't supposed to rain there in summer. Well, bad luck for us

4. Drake Mountains (2)
Covered with haze in the morning of our departure

5. Huts
Typical zulu and/or swazi-hut, this picture taken in Swaziland

6. Roof
A straw-roof in the area of Kruger Nationalpark

7./8. Hilltop
A view of the beautiful landscape of Hluhluwe Nationalpark on Hilltop View

9. Sunset
One of the few beautiful sunsets which we were allowed to experience :-)

10.-12. Plettenberg
Impressions of Plettenberg Bay at the Garden Route

13. Knysna
A view of the surrounding mountains near the small coastal town Knysna

14. Arniston
Beach in Arniston, only a little east of Cape Town
